I ended the sermon last Sunday with these words, “Esther is now crowned as queen of Persia. What will she do with these new powers and responsibilities? We’ll have to keep reading to find out. ”
This Sunday, we’ll be picking up the story of Esther and Mordecai by covering Esther 2:19-4:17 this coming Sunday, January 26th.
Esther is ready to put her life on the line!
The plot starts thickening quickly in this section of the story. Mordecai overhears a plot to assassinate the king. He tells Esther and she tells the king. The would-be assassins are put to death.
Then a new advisor of the king, Haman, is promoted to a high rank. He orders everyone to bow down to him.
Mordecai won’t do it. So, Haman gets authority from the King to commit a mass genocide of all Jews in the entire Persian Empire.
Mordecai gets word to Esther, and Esther says she is ready to put her life on the line to spare her people. It’s a death sentence – even to her – to approach the king without being summoned. But, she’s going to go. What will happen next? That’s for next week to find out!
Wow! What drama!
But, also, what faith. Esther says, “If I die, I die.”
