“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” – Psalm 46:1

Just two weeks ago, 24 youth and adults, from our congregation, started their journey back to the Keweenaw after spending 5 days soaking in this theme verse and the rest of Psalm 46.

Each morning we would spend time in the bible and read all of Psalm 46. Verse by verse, we would go around the room and hear these words as we began our day.

I don’t know about you but I feel and find great comfort in these words and so did our youth. The theme for the 2019 National Youth Gathering was REAL. PRESENT. GOD. You probably saw it pasted across previous blog posts, t-shirts, and fundraising fliers even. But as we journeyed through the 5 days of the gathering, we broke down these words individually and then put them all together. Here are some of means these words had to our youth.

REAL. – Authentic, good, always there, not fake, and trustworthy.

PRESENT. – Always there, not alone, can’t hide from, a gift, not distracted, and full attention.

GOD. – Big, small and personal, powerful, in control, not me, creature, friend, He doesn’t make mistakes, and undescribable.

REAL.PRESENT.GOD. – He knows me and loves me, always with me and will never leave me, the person I can turn to in the good and the bad, I don’t need to be afraid, and in Him I have grace and love.

This is powerful stuff! And if I were to ask the youth to share one video from the gathering that summarized this they would would all say you need to see this video:

Next week I will share about the daily group challenges our youth had and the impact they had on them and the gathering.
