What happens when sinful people come together to pool their sinful deeds and desires for their own power? The Tower of Babel. It’s a relatively short story in Genesis chapter 11, but it is highly significant.
We’ve seen what’s happened so far in Genesis. God created perfection. Man and woman sinned. Sin intensified when Cain killed Abel. Sin intensified even more and God had to send the flood to start over. Very quickly after exiting the ark, sin intensified once again.
It came to the point that the sinful creation rebelled once again against their primary command from God, “to be fruitful and multiply.” Instead they desired to “make a name for themselves.”
What we see in the Scriptures is that God’s people continuously rebel against his good Word. God works to bring about healing for his people, but then they rebel again.
What we will see on Sunday is that God does indeed desire for all nations to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ and come to a saving faith in him. But, he desires for them to lean not on their own understanding, but to trust in him and him alone.
When you come together with other people, will you come together to make a name for yourself, or will you come together to make the name of Jesus Christ known? I pray the latter.
Alive in Christ!
