God’s blessings to you all in this new and wonderful year! I am sorry that I haven’t updated you guys in some time, but I am excited about bringing you some updates now! It is always my pleasure to get to know each of you a little at a time and I am continuously excited to meet more of you and learn about the blessed skills that God has provided you with and how you use them in your everyday life. As we enter into a new year God provides us with an opportunity for new or continued growth, in some way. Usually, on January 1st the average individual sets one or several new year’s resolutions. Unfortunately, we build our resolutions up to this unrealistic expectation or goal that seems to not make it past the first month of the new year. I have decided that instead of starting a new year’s resolution on January 1st, I am going to start it on a random day in February, not on a Monday and not for any special reason. This year, I am taking you along for the ride with this new approach. The resolution in part is to eliminate the expectation and not build of the suspense too much where we feel we can’t succeed. It should be a fun and self-fulfilling journey and not one of dread or fear of failure. So, are you ready for the resolution?
The resolution is to be giving more this year than getting. What this means is to spend time focusing on how you can serve others in your life, community or places further away rather than just being wrapped up in our day-to-day life. We often get so focused on our busy schedules that we forget how awesome it is to serve our fellow human, not to mention the opportunities God puts in front of us that he hopes we will take. I will be the first to admit that my schedule is busy and that I dread penciling in another thing, but I also have this love of serving. Not only does it bring me joy to give, but it warms my heart and gives me hope when I see others serving too. I know that it can be challenging to give of your time and maybe even of your comfort, but the only way to grow is to do things that force you to change. So, for the next year, your challenge will be to complete 152 hours of giving. This church has served this community for 152 years, so let’s see if we can continue to honor this legacy by aiming for a high goal and giving back. In the next couple of weeks, you will see a video in church highlighting the resolution and providing details. For now, start to observe the opportunities God puts in front of you on how to serve the community and Him. I look forward to taking this journey with you through the course of the year.
