“I get to go to camp today!” shouted one youth, to his mom, when he woke up last Friday.  There is no doubt that the excitement for camp is real and valid.   Camp is pretty awesome and to have our weekend start with this kind of excitement and anticipation was even better!

Last weekend we packed 9 middle school students, myself, and all our gear into our trusty church van and set-off for Winter Camp at Camp Luther!

This weekend was specially tailored and set apart for just middle school students.  with close to 70 youth in attendance, we joined groups from Marquette, MI,  Green Bay, WI, Illinois and more!

(This is the group from Redeemer Lutheran Church in Marquette, MI with our group in the back.  We all worked together and created a chain of 14 tubes that flew down one run!!)

So what did we do at winter camp? In short…everything possible.  It was a fast paced and jam packed weekend.  We started off with evening worship and devotions, where we talked about Camp Luther’s 2019 theme, Take Heart, from John 16:33.

It was so great to start and end each day in a time of worship, devotion and bible study together.  It was really encouraging to see our group really start to open up about their faith, share struggles, and discuss how they can trust in God in both the good and hard times.

But when this time finished up we would throw on our snow gear and head outside.  We cross country skied, tubed twice and even divided up and had a pretty intense game of broomball!

It was a fantastic weekend, full of joy!  New relationships were formed while others deepened.  We grew in our faith and played hard in the snow.  It truly was a joy!
