Hi! I’m Riley Simpson and I’m a 3rd year mechanical engineering student and Air Force ROTC cadet at Michigan Tech. Right now, I’m the Vice President of Sts Peter and Paul’s college group, CSM, and the drummer for the student praise band. I’ve been involved with CSM since I started here at Tech, and I’m so glad to have found such a supportive group of people to surround myself with at school. I grew up switching between churches a lot, but I got confirmed and baptized through the LCMS right before I turned 17 and I’m here to stay.
I’m originally from Alabama, but I moved up to the Chicago suburbs when I was in grade school.Even though I don’t live in either place anymore, I still love drinking sweet tea, watching Auburn football and eating deep dish pizza. Fall is my favorite season because I love all the colors, hiking, pumpkin farms, apple orchards and sweaters that come with the cooler (but not freezing) weather. My family growing up consists of myself, my 4 siblings and my parents, however I’ve started a little animal family of my own since moving out. I have a tortoise named Tank and two hedgehogs named Spike and Nala.
My favorite question to be asked is “what do you want to be when you grow up?” because I feel like I never changed my mind from the impractical career choices that I made as a small child. First and foremost, I want to be a fighter pilot. I’m competing for a pilot selection spot this winter, so feel free to ask me in March if I’ve heard back from the Air Force yet. Secondly, I want to be a maker. I want to be that person with the garage full of projects, tools, gizmos and gadgets. I want to solve other people’s’ problems and have a great time doing it. I love puzzles and problems that don’t necessarily have a clear cut answer.
Make sure to say hi and introduce yourself to Riley this Sunday!
