The Early Learning Center (ELC) is open for enrollment! Registration is open for students ages three – five years for classes beginning in January. We currently have 14 spots available; first to sign up will be the first to receive a spot. Enrollment applications are available at copperluth.org
Please share this information with parents of preschool-aged children! We are so excited to start this new ministry and get to know the families we will be serving.
Answers to FAQs:
The ELC will be open year-round, Monday – Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. beginning in January.
The rate is $834 a month, or roughly $4 an hour. We are currently only taking in those who enroll in full-time care. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org regarding financial aid opportunities if cost is a concern for your family.
The preschool curriculum is play-based, and driven by the students’ natural curiosity. The students will partake in organized and free play every day, including music and movement activities and a daily creative challenge. As often as possible, students will be outside; however, given our propensity for severe weather, the multi-purpose room (gymnasium) will also be available to us. Math, science, social studies, and literacy activities and choices will be woven into the day. Students will also have a rest time.
The students are authentically assessed through collected in-class observations, notes and photographs, and work samples. We do not use standardized tests as they are not developmentally appropriate for this age group.
We have applied for a Child Care Center license through the State of Michigan and are on-track to receive it prior to opening. There are two teachers and one aide on staff; all have been fingerprinted and background checked, and will have received fresh training and re-certification in CPR, First Aid, and BBP prior to opening.
There is no busing available at this time; we are strictly a drop-off and pick-up center. Carpooling is encouraged. Parents will pre-register approved adults for drop-off and pick-up. We will be closed when the ISD calls a school closing for inclement weather.
We will not serve food this year, so families will need to provide a lunch and two snacks per day. If snacks are forgotten, we will have pre-packaged options available. We may serve food from the community garden or themed snacks for special events. Families will be informed ahead of time of these instances.
Potty-training is encouraged, but we understand that some three-year-olds are not at this point and accidents are common. Please note any individual concerns on your application, or in an email to the director.
Five-year-olds who will go on to kindergarten in September are welcome to apply and attend the Early Learning Center. We will be taking applications in the spring to fill the fall spots left by students who move on to kindergarten.
Finally, if you are interested in helping out at the ELC, we do need volunteers for pick-up and drop-off assistance! Please contact me at email@example.com for more information.
