Lent is always the time that someone I know says, “I’m giving up ___ for Lent.” Why?

Is it a yearly tradition of yours?

I know a lot of people who give up things like chocolate, alcohol, sugar, Facebook… what else?

It seems as though when people give something up they do it because it’s something that they enjoy. It’s something that makes them comfortable. And for Lent they elect to give it up. Perhaps they/you do it because it’s what people do during Lent. Perhaps it’s to focus attention on Jesus’ sacrifice every time you long for that creature-comfort.

For the next six weeks, on Wednesdays and Sundays, we will be focusing our Lenten theme on this, “I Give Up: Six Weeks of Sacrifice.”

I pray that you join us for this journey with Jesus to the cross and the empty tomb!
