Hello Everyone,

What a wonderful time of year it is. We are in the season of Advent and Christmas is almost upon us. As Christmas draws near we can get swept up in the hustle and bustle of the season, but I want to take a minute to update you all on the amazing things that are happening at our church. So many of you are dedicated to service and trying to meet the needs of those in need in our community. There are many activities that have passed, but there are still ongoing projects that you can participate in.

Angel Tree
angeltreeMost of you by now have seen the Angel Tree set up in the Narthex and many of you have taken an angel off of the tree.  The Angel Tree will provide local families in need with gifts for Christmas. We still have angels remaining on the tree and I would encourage you and your family to consider fulfilling the need we have by signing up for an angel. If you are able to, take an angel off of the tree and sign your name on the sheet located on the table next to the tree. If you have any questions, please contact Megan Brueggeman at megmaep@yahoo.com.

Dorcas Society/LWML Event
After much planning, advertising, setting up, and working at the 71st Annual Holiday Bazaar, Bake Sale, & Tea, on Saturday, November 18, we ended the day pleased that God had blessed us with another successful event.  Some of the unsold white elephant items, baked goods, and Christmas things were left for Sunday sales so those who did not make it to the Bazaar on Saturday could shop after both Services.  A lot of the remaining white elephant table items were taken to Goodwill in Houghton.  The rest are stored for next year’s Bazaar or may be used at other fundraising events at the church. We thank Andi Schuldt of Four Seasons Tea Room for donating the tea for the Tea Table.  The bottom line is that we raised $1,278.44.  We will be disbursing funds raised to various mission organizations at our January 16 meeting.

Advent By Candlelight
The evening of Thursday, November 30, was a special one as there were over a 100 ladies seated at a dozen tables or more.  They were set up with lovely dishes, featured delicious desserts prepared by their hostesses, along with tea, coffee, water, and punch.  The tea was donated by Andi Schuldt of the Four Seasons Tea Room.  We then gathered in the Sanctuary to enjoy a program heralding the Advent of our Savior, with Scripture readings, lighting of the Advent candles, and enjoying the harmonious singing of the Noteworthy ladies that was interspersed between the readings.  It was a truly blessed evening.

Fleece Bibs
At the November 21 meeting of the Dorcas Society, the ladies finished making seven fleece bibs for the Dialysis patients at UP Health-Portage Hospital.  The preparatory work by Denise Coates made for a shorter time at the meeting, where the ladies had fun tying the sides as they chatted with each other.  It warmed our hearts to know that they were going to warm the patients while going through their treatments.  We attached tags to each bib, which consisted of a SS Peter & Paul business card and Martin Luther’s Morning & Evening Prayers card.  Pastor Gehrke blessed the bibs at both Services on December 3, asking God to watch over the recipients.  They were then taken to Portage by Barb and Gary Worrall.

I hope that you all have a blessed Advent season and very Merry Christmas! I look forward to a new year and additional opportunities to work alongside you all in showing the love of Christ to our neighbors.

Many Blessings,
Kerri Mayra
