Where should we pray? Can you add to this list?
We should pray: at church, around the dining room table, and in our beds.
You’ll probably all say, “Of course we pray at other places as well!” But…do you pray in other places?
Where is it appropriate to pray in front of other people? Is it ok to pray in public? If I do, should I do it out loud, or just keep to myself? Should I bow my head and close my eyes to make it evident I’m praying, or should I just think the thoughts in my head so others won’t be able to tell I’m praying? Should we offer prayer for others even if they don’t ask for it?
On Sunday morning, you will read together this passage of Jesus recorded in the book of Matthew 6:
“And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 6 But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
I will be out of town this coming Sunday and Pastor Weber will be preaching on this good word of God for all of you. You are in my prayers, and I ask for yours as well as my family and I enjoy a little vacation!
