Last week we wrapped up our journey through The Story. The Story ended by pointing to our future hope in Heaven. As we wait for Heaven, we are constantly working towards that day as we live our lives in God’s creation.

For the last 150 years, the people of Saints Peter and Paul Lutheran Church have been on mission together. It’s a mission to bring the good news of Jesus Christ to this world.

Mark your calendars: on July 23rd, 2017 we will have an official celebration of our 150th anniversary.

Leading up to July 23rd, over the next 8 weeks, I will be breaking down the Mission Statement from our church’s constitution which was first drafted in 1868.

Screen Shot 2017-05-24 at 6.20.30 AMEach week I will take one phrase of the Mission Statement and expound on it. What I pray is that we will see that we join with many who have come before us in this task of bringing Jesus to the world. The mission of the Church remains the same even in the midst of an ever-changing world.

THIS Sunday, May 28th

The topic is “Give Honor and Glory to God.”

I think there is good reason for this to be the very first piece of the mission. Compare this to the 1st Commandment: “You shall have no other gods.” If you have no other gods before God, himself, then you are actually giving Him honor and glory.

This comes first because if we don’t get the relationship straight between who God is and who we are, then nothing else will make sense. However, if we actually allow God to be God in our lives and throughout this world, life starts to make more sense.

Honor: “high respect. esteem.”
Glory: “worship. praise.”

How does this play out in your daily living?

Do you, before anything else you do in the morning, give God the honor and glory he deserves for waking you up to another day of life?

Do you thank and praise him for the daily bread that he richly and graciously provides for you?

Do you call upon his name by praying, praising, and giving thanks, or do you thoughtlessly and carelessly call out the name of God Almighty?

During the day, do you thank God for the opportunities for living He places before you?

At night, do you spend time thanking God for the day, and asking forgiveness for your sins?

I pray that you will join us over the next 8 weeks as we dive into this 150 year old mission of Saints Peter and Paul. It begins this Sunday, May 28th, and culminates on July 23rd.
