Chapter 5 of The Story is one about new commands and a new covenant. I don’t know about you, but I don’t like people telling me what to do!
It could be the fact that I’m half German and naturally, I’m a bit stubborn. It could be that I’m 1/4 Finnish, and…naturally, I’m a bit stubborn.
It could be that 100% male and therefore, I’m naturally stubborn.
It could also be that, just like you, I’m a sinner in the likes of Adam and Eve who like to take matters into my own hands.
For all of the reasons listed above, I need the 10 commandments and so do you. And yet, we see that the 10 commandments are also coupled with a covenant from God. A covenant – an everlasting promise – that God will be God and we will be his people. That means, even when we break his commands, his covenant promise is still for us. That’s very good news!
